Butte-Glenn Medical Society is a 501c6 non-profit organization with a Board of Directors elected for two-year* positions. Committee leadership generally leads to nomination for Secretary/Treasurer. The Secretary/Treasurer advances to Incoming President and then to President, followed by the position of Immediate Past President. These roles are defined in by-laws and provide continuity and stable leadership for the organization, simultaneously providing leadership for physician members and for our community. Nominations for the Board are conducted each Spring/Summer.
Although independent, the Butte-Glenn Medical Society (BGMS) is closely affiliated with the California Medical Association (CMA). All dues provide membership and leadership opportunities in both organizations. Through shared governance, BGMS is the local voice for CMA’s statewide efforts. Together, physicians who are part of BGMS have an amplified and stronger voice through CMA. Our Board of Directors, Delegates and members have an active role in CMA throughout the year with online resolution submissions and with two major annual events. CMA Advocacy Day in Sacramento is usually in April and House of Delegates is in October. BGMS’ President is part of CMA’s Council of Presidents. BGMS Board of Directors are eligible for CMA Board and other leadership positions.
Butte-Glenn Medical Society is part of CMA’s District 11, along with neighboring medical associations in Placer-Nevada, Yuba-Sutter-Colusa, North Valley Medical Association and Sierra-Sacramento Valley Medical Society. The current Trustee representing District 11 is noted below.
